VBS Kids Events – Summer 2017

We had an awesome VBS Kids Week!  We learned that the sun, moon and stars remind us that God created everything.  And the Bible also tells us that God uniquely created us to have a relationship with Him!  We have included some pictures below of all the fun we had through games, music, crafts, snacks and Bible stories!

Check out some pictures from the week below:

2017 VBS Postcard Event 2

If it is your first time to come to one of our events check out pictures from our monthly Kids Night Out Events and previous VBS events below!

During our March Kids Night Out we learned about why Jesus died on the cross.  This is an important question to answer to get ready for Easter!  Since Jesus is God’s Son He lived a perfect life.  However, He did much more than show us how to live all God’s commandments.  Jesus was punished on the cross and died in our place for the ways each one of us disobey God.  But, because there was no rebellion or disobedience toward God in Jesus death could not keep him dead!  After three days in the tomb, an angel rolled away the stone and Jesus was not there!  Jesus was alive!  The Bible teaches if anyone expresses a genuine desire to trust Jesus as their personal Savior and follow Him, they are forgiven of all their disobedience toward God and Jesus changes their heart from the inside out!  He gives them the desire to know and follow Him.

“But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said.” (Matthew 25:5-6)

Pictures from January Kids Night Out:

Tonight’s theme was: “Jesus is our Rescuer”.  We kicked it off by talking about rescuers in our own community.  The Stoneham Fire Department showed us how their uniforms and tools equip them to rescue people in danger.  From the Bible we learned that Jesus is a different type of Rescuer.  The story we learned was from Mark 2:1-12 .  It is about four men that have a paralyzed friend and they want to bring him to Jesus to be healed.  However, because of the large crowd the only way to get him to Jesus was to cut a hole in the roof and lower him in the room where He was teaching!  Jesus’ words reveal that His purpose is to rescue us from our sins, the ways we disobey God.  Many were offended and criticized Jesus for saying this.  But to prove His authority to forgive sin, he heals the man before them!

Also, many thanks to our volunteers from Kennebec Community Church in Augusta, Maine who came down to help us staff this month’s event.

2016 VBS Postcard-2

Submerged — Day 4 — 7/21

The kids may have been able to dodge the balls during Rec. but I was not able to dodge the chocolate cream pie to my face!  Great job getting the win girls, coming in at $280.68!! Thanks so much to everyone who contributed to the Chande Baptist Orphanage in Kitwe, Zambia.  The boys and girls raised a combined: $512.27!  Today we learned about Jesus healing a man who was blind from birth.  All of us have faced or will face hard situations in life that we can’t control: sickness, accidents, a job relocation, or loss of a friend or one we love.  God though knows our purpose.  These things are not a surprise to Him.  They are also not a consequence for any type of disobediance.  Jesus explained  “…but this happened so that the Work of God might be displayed in his life.”  When we welcome Jesus as our Lord He allows us to understand the purpose of our lives, especially when the path is not the easiest.  (John 9)

Submerged — Day 3 — 7/20

Today’s VBS was filled with concentration and competition!  We had to concentrate pretty hard to get all that colorful sand in those craft bottles, but the results were worth it!  In the missions class we thought up ideas about how to tell people about Jesus while doing the things we enjoy.  The competition took place playing capture the flag during Rec. and it heated up even more during our closing crazy game!  Boys vs. girls raced to eat a cup of green Jello…by sucking it through a straw!   It’s not as easy as you may think!  Today’s Bible story echoed the same theme.  Nicodemus was the kind of guy who tried really hard to follow all of God’s rules.  However, despite his best efforts, Jesus told him, “no one can see God’s kingdom without being born again.”  Jesus reassured Nick there was no need to track down his mom, because He was referring to our spiritual birth.  And the plan of how it all happens, Jesus said He had that covered too, “The Son of Man must be lifted up also.  Then everyone who believes in Him can live with God forever.”  Like Nicodemus, even with our best intentions we are not good enough to obey all God’s rules all the time.  We all fall short.  That’s why we all need a Savior.  And God loved the world so much He gave us one, His Son Jesus, who was lifted up on the cross and then from the grave for us all.  (John 3:1-21)

Submerged — Day 2 — 7/19

Thankful for the cooler weather today!  The kids had a fun time playing soccer on the Town Common during Rec. There were schools of fish puppets made during Craft time, and a demonstration on how to give an octopus a bath using shaving cream!  We learned about another person in the Bible who met Jesus.  She encountered Jesus while filling up her water jars at the well.   Because of how people treated her and ways that she struggled to obey God in her past she didn’t feel very good about herself.  However, Jesus knows our worth!  Valuing ourselves based on what we do or how others treat us is like trying to fill a bucket with holes in it.  Jesus wants us to experience self worth that is always full, actually overflowing.  This only happens when we find it in Him, Our Savior.  He puts it this way, “But anyone who drinks the water I give Him will never be thirsty.  In fact, the water I give Him will become a spring of water in him.  It will flow up into eternal life.” (John 4:1-42)

Submerged — Day 1 — 7/18

We had a great time at VBS today!  We learned about a man named Zaccheaus who made quite a bit of money stealing from people while collecting their taxes.  When Jesus passed through his town he climbed up a tree to get a look at him (ask your kids why).  Jesus though had other plans for Zaccheaus.  Jesus knows who we really are, the good, the bad and the ugly.  The good news is, when we welcome Jesus joyfully into our lives, call him Lord, as Zaccheaus did, there is complete forgiveness.  And not only that, but change as well.  We have motivation and strength to please God because of His mercy shown to us.  That’s what He did for Zaccheaus, and still does for us today.  (Luke 19:1-10)
